Diagnostics

General Operation

All of the diagnostics in PERFORMER II are accessed by holding down the CLEAR and a NUMBER together, while turning on the machine.  The diagnostics available and their NUMBERS follow:

  
1. KEYBOARD TEST

This test will display the button code of each button after it is pressed (Note: the key switch is a button so it must be in the off position to run this test).  The codes are as follows:

2. FADER TEST

This test will display all of the faders in hexadecimal (00 to FF).  They will be in the following format:

3. VIDEO TEST

This test displays all of the possible characters in all possible positions

  
4. NORMAL ALIGNMENT

This test will fill the video screen with the character "H" for alignment.

  
5. REVERSE ALIGNMENT

This test is the same as 4 above except the characters are displayed in reverse video.

  
6. RAM TEST

This test runs a series of write/read test on random access memory in the system.  Characters will tick by in the upper right hand corner of the screen to indicate the test is running.  Pass number will display after each successful complete pass.  On error the display will give complete information concerning the bad data.  The test requires entry of starting and ending address, see table under #7 below for layout of keyboard, terminate entry with MEM key.  If a starting address lower then the starting address of  the system RAM plus 96(60H) is entered the check will start at at RAM start plus 96(60H).  Row 0 is the system RAM row 1 is the top row of the cue RAM.

7. MONITOR

The monitor serves as a front panel to the computer allowing access to the memory directly.  It can be used to display, modify, and run programs.  The keyboard is as follows:

To use, enter a hex number (maximum 4 digits) and hit MEMORY  to display that location.  STEP will display the next location.  To modify a location enter a hex number and hit INSERT, PERFORMER II will respong by displaying the same location and the new dta.  Remember if you try to modify the PROM area the machine will display the old data as write operations are not possible in PROM.

To RUN a program enter the WORKSPACE POINTER into the next to the last location in the system RAM, the PROGRAM COUNTER into the last location and hit RUN to start.  In a system with 2516 EPROMs the locations are 3FFC and 3FFE.  In a system with 2532 EPROMs they are 6FFC and 6FFE.
